Naomi’s 3-Lesson Journey: From Beginner to Her First landscape Painting
Starting Out with Naomi
Naomi, a Japanese student, joined my class at Art Tutor Hanoi three weeks ago with a simple wish: to explore the world of painting. As someone who had never held a brush before, Naomi expressed concern about whether she could create a painting. But after just three lessons, Naomi completed her first abstract painting, leaving me both surprised and proud.
Lesson 1: Getting Acquainted and Exploring
In the first lesson, we focused on getting familiar with colors and materials. I encouraged Naomi to experiment with free strokes and learn to feel the harmony of colors without worrying too much about rules. This helped her gradually build confidence in using a brush.
Lesson 2: Practicing Texture and Movement
In the second lesson, Naomi began learning how to create texture using palette knives and large brushes. We discussed how to convey emotions through each stroke and color block. Naomi demonstrated a keen eye for selecting color palettes and started forming abstract ideas for her artwork.
Lesson 3: Completing the Artwork
The final lesson was when Naomi focused on finishing her painting. With guidance on balancing composition and highlighting important details, she created an abstract painting full of emotion. It was a harmonious blend of ocean blues, gentle flowing textures, and an open, airy atmosphere.

Reflections on the Outcome
Naomi’s painting was not just visually appealing but also reflected her journey of self-discovery. Through each layer of paint, she found joy and confidence in art.
Naomi shared: “Before, I always thought painting was something very difficult. But after three lessons, I realized that art is not just about technique, but also about expressing one’s emotions.”
Conclusion
Naomi’s story is a testament to the fact that anyone, even someone who has never held a brush, can create something amazing with the right guidance and passion. I believe this is only the beginning of her artistic journey, and I look forward to seeing more of Naomi’s future works.
