A Researcher's Sketchbook
Born in Australia with Korean roots, I came to Hanoi as a World Bank intern while studying at Harvard. During those six months, I found a second home at Art Tutor Hanoi, where I explored drawing, painting, and even improvisation theatre for the first time. These experiences encouraged me to be more observant, more creative, and more open to new ideas. As I continue my academic journey in the United States, I hope to keep art as a lifelong companion and continue learning wherever I go.
Two-year learning path — each phase built on the last.
First steps in the studio — mastering proportion, line weight, and learning the fundamentals of academic seeing.
The core of the foundational study. Developing a deep sensibility for charcoal's tactile and expressive qualities to master form and tonal value.
Transitioning into color. A deep dive into oil and acrylic mediums, focusing on color mixing, layering techniques, and still-life composition.

As I begin a new chapter in the United States, I hope to continue learning art by joining a local studio or taking workshops whenever I have the chance. I want to keep drawing, exploring new ideas, and improving my skills step by step. I believe art will always be an important part of my life.
TEACHER'S COMMENT
Joshua spent six months at Art Tutor Hanoi, and throughout that time he was one of the most hardworking and cheerful students in the studio. He approached every lesson with curiosity, consistency, and a genuine love for drawing. I truly believe that if he ever decides to pursue art professionally, he has the potential to become a great artist.
What makes Joshua's work stand out is the innocence of his lines and his sense of color. His paintings have a natural sincerity and charm that would lend themselves beautifully to a naïve art style.
Joshua has now left Art Tutor Hanoi and moved to the United States to pursue a new chapter in his career. Even so, I'm confident that he will continue drawing as a lifelong hobby. And who knows, perhaps one day we'll be talking about the artist Joshua Park. I certainly wouldn't be surprised.
