In the third sketching session, she learned how to analyze and create textures in order to convey the material qualities of objects to the viewer. Moreover, she needs to feel more comfortable developing her own techniques rather than trying to replicate reality too literally.

She practiced oil painting with a wide range of colors. Her color palette is quite harmonious; however, she needs more practice to render the structure more clearly.

We worked on correcting the previous painting, bringing it back to a monochromatic stage to focus on basic light and shadow.
An apple has a form similar to a plaster sphere, so it’s a good exercise for practicing simple value studies.Kathy continued getting familiar with oil paint through these foundational exercises.

This was Kathy’s first lesson with oil paint. The main goal was simply to get familiar with the medium — placing the right colors for each object and adding a bit of light and shadow. That was enough for this session.

The 3/4 view head statue drawing — Kathy completed it very well.
The light and shadow planes were pushed deeply with good detail, and the charcoal texture was handled nicely.This concludes the charcoal module for now.
Starting next session, we will begin learning **oil painting**.
