Learn the art of Vietnamese silk painting with Dr. Le Xuan Dzung, Lecturer at the Vietnam University of Fine Arts, and explore the delicate balance between traditional craftsmanship and modern artistic expression.
This 12-session advanced workshop is designed for learners who already have basic experience in silk painting and wish to deepen their techniques, experiment with materials, and develop a personal creative voice.
About the Lecturer
Dr. Le Xuan Dzung
Lecturer, Faculty of Painting – Vietnam University of Fine Arts
Dr. Le Xuan Dzung is a silk painting artist and art educator with over 25 years of experience.
He earned his Master’s degree at the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA), Beijing, and a PhD in Art History at Beijing Normal University, specializing in Chinese and world art history.
His silk paintings have been exhibited in Vietnam, China, and Thailand, and are included in the collection of the Vietnam National Fine Arts Museum.
Through this workshop, participants will explore the beauty of silk painting — where traditional craftsmanship meets modern expression.
Course Content
Under Dr. Dzung’s guidance, participants will gain a deep understanding of Vietnamese silk painting — from material preparation to completing a finished artwork.
Main Topics:
- Introduction to materials – understanding silk, wooden silk frame, brushes, pigments, and traditional tools
- Silk stretching technique – mounting silk onto a wooden silk frame
- Sketching & outlining – transferring drawings onto silk
- Color application – layering and brushwork on silk surface
- Washing techniques – rinsing and fixing color tones
- Glue preparation & backing – finishing the back side of the painting
- Final presentation & preservation – completing and maintaining silk artworks
🎨 The course combines demonstrations, theory, and hands-on practice, allowing each student to complete a full silk painting by the end of 12 sessions.
