Meet Sayang — our student from Indonesia
Sayang came to Vietnam to study both art and Angklung, a traditional Indonesian musical instrument.
From her very first day at Art Tutor Hanoi, she has shown incredible patience and dedication — learning drawing step by step, from the most basic exercises.
She has a special love for black and white, so most of her works are done in charcoal. Through countless portrait and still-life studies, she has built a solid foundation and developed a calm, expressive style that truly reflects her personality.
After more than a year of consistent practice, it feels like she’s now ready to begin creating her own charcoal compositions — a new chapter in her artistic journey.

Continuing with the female head statue, we adjusted the proportions and gradually moved into the details.
Everything is going quite well. This statue is quite challenging because it’s very difficult to capture the specific facial features of the model.

Sayang started working on the female head statue, using an overall composition with a dark background and a brightly lit sculpture.
The challenge of this exercise is to make the very bright head stand out properly within the whole painting.Her proportions are quite good, and the head has a nice, subtle tilt.

She completed the head statue (Mr. Vinh) with a background that matches well with the sculpture.
The drawing is finished very nicely, with accurate proportions of the head.

Continuing with the side-view portrait sculpture, Sayang grasped the structure very quickly and built the form quite accurately.

Mr. Vinh has been completed quite well, with a remarkable improvement in texture.
The charcoal drawing has also started to convey more emotion — congratulations, Sayang!
