Meet Sayang — our student from Indonesia
Sayang came to Vietnam to study both art and Angklung, a traditional Indonesian musical instrument.
From her very first day at Art Tutor Hanoi, she has shown incredible patience and dedication — learning drawing step by step, from the most basic exercises.
She has a special love for black and white, so most of her works are done in charcoal. Through countless portrait and still-life studies, she has built a solid foundation and developed a calm, expressive style that truly reflects her personality.
After more than a year of consistent practice, it feels like she’s now ready to begin creating her own charcoal compositions — a new chapter in her artistic journey.
✨ We’re proud of you, Sayang!

Complete the picture with a few backgrounds and add some details about the leaves. Sayang has started to describe the texture of fresh leaves and wilted leaves. Very good.

A difficult exercise with wilting lotus leaves. The students must concentrate on observing the twisted structure of the lotus leaves, combining them with branches and flowers to create a harmonious whole. One more session is needed to perfect it, but today the teacher has already drawn several leaves that are very good in terms of structure.

Sayang completed the Munsell color wheel. She worked very focused and carefully. The color transition is very good, except the yellow is a bit too bright compared to the other colors. I hope she will continue to dedicate time to the next color exercises: complementary colors, contrasting colors, exercises on hue…
