Farewell, Kathy — Two Years at Art Tutor Hanoi

After two years of study at Art Tutor Hanoi (August 2024 – June 2026), Kathy Malou is moving on from Hanoi to continue her year-long journey around the world — with watercolour and pencil always at hand. We send her a warm farewell and wish her safe travels, peace, and every success as she keeps building her painting practice on the road.

Born in Belgium and raised in France, Kathy spent recent years in Hanoi as a Hydraulic and Environment Engineer before turning her fascination with nature into painting in 2024 — A visual journal by a traveling engineer. See her full Fine Art portfolio at artist_portfolio?id=AD0601.

Teacher’s note

Teacher Nguyen Manh Hung: Kathy is precise with pencil studies, accurate with proportions, and incredibly patient with her hatching. She spent a long time mastering charcoal and developed a real feeling for the material. Moving into colour brought challenges at first, but she never hesitated to push through — stepping out of her comfort zone, trying different mediums, and joining live model sessions with an open mind.

Two-year learning path

  • 08/2024 – 09/2025 — Foundation in Pencil: proportion, line weight, academic seeing.
  • 10/2024 – 11/2025 — Intensive Charcoal: form, tonal value, material sensibility.
  • 11/2025 – 05/2026 — Oil Painting: colour mixing, layering, still life.
  • 12/2025 – 05/2026 — Sketching: gesture, colour layout, mixed media.
  • 06/2026 — Watercolour: fluid techniques for scenery and space.
