Frequently asked questions about our art classes in Hanoi

We’ve collected common questions from our students — whether you’re a traveler, expat, or local looking for art classes in Hanoi, this FAQ covers everything from pricing to schedules and materials.

1. General Course Info

Q: I’m a complete beginner. Can I still join your art class?
A: Yes! Many of our students are beginners. Our instructors will guide you throughout the class.

Q: Which course should I take as a beginner?
A: We recommend Pencil Basics 1 — it builds essential skills like line, shape, and shading. It’s the foundation for all other materials.

Q: Are the classes taught in English?
A: Yes. All classes are available in English and Vietnamese.

Q: How long is each session?
A: Adult classes are typically 2 hours, and Life Drawing is 2.5 hours. Kids’ classes are 1.5 hours.

Q: Can I try a class before booking the full course?
A: Absolutely. You can book a trial class.

Q: What level am I?
A: Send us your past drawings, or better, book a trial class so we can assess and recommend a course.


2. Schedules, Frequency & Flexibility

Q: I’m only in Hanoi for 1–2 months. Can I take art classes daily?
A: Yes. We offer both structured courses and flexible daily programs.

Q: Can I take multiple classes at the same time?
A: Yes, many students do. We’ll guide you on the best sequence — e.g., Pencil Basics before Charcoal or Oil.

Q: Can I change the schedule midway through a course?
A: Yes. Please let us know at least 1 week in advance so we can adjust your class/teacher accordingly.

Q: Can I pause the course if I need to travel?
A: Yes, you can pause your course if you’re traveling and resume at a later date.
Please notify our Admin as early as possible before you leave so we can adjust the schedule.

Q: Can I cancel a class if I’m sick or have a change of plans?
If you’re unwell or need to change plans:

  • Please notify our Admin (WhatsApp/Zalo/Email1) at least 24 hours before the scheduled class.
  • We allow you to reschedule the missed class within 7 days with no extra fee.
  • If the rescheduled session doesn’t happen within that time, we’ll charge for the missed class.

🔸 For classes with custom schedules or private 1-on-1 sessions, cancellations made less than 24 hours in advance will be charged in full.


3. Pricing, Materials & Payment

Q: What are the tuition fees?
A: Please see our Pricing page. Most classes start from 400,000VND/session.

Q: Are materials included in the price?
A: Yes. Most beginner classes include all needed tools. Extra items like canvas frames / oil painting medium, may have additional cost.

Q: What materials are used in each class?
A:

  • Pencil Basics: pencils, erasers, paper, measuring tools
  • Charcoal: like above, including vine charcoal
  • Oil Painting: paint tubes, brushes, palette, gloves, oil, apron
  • Sketch: a mix of dry and color media (pastels, colored pencils, markers)

Q: Are there any hidden fees?
A: No, but we’ll inform you if extra materials or changes apply.

Q: How can I pay?
A: Bank transfer, PayPal, or cash. Bank transfer is preferred to reserve your spot.


4. Policies (Refunds, Attendance & Discounts)
  • All classes and packages are non-refundable.
  • Discounted sessions/packages cannot be refunded or transferred to another person.
  • Notify us at least 24 hours before class to receive credit for a make-up session.
  • Cancellations under 24 hours or last-minute are charged in full.
  • Make-up sessions must be used within 7 days (unless arranged otherwise).
  • If Art Tutor Hanoi cancels a class, a free make-up session will be provided.
  • Packages can be paused for travel — please notify our Admin in advance.
5. Class Types & Special Requests

Q: Do you offer Life Drawing / Nude Model Sketch classes?
A: Yes. We host regular life drawing / Nude Model Sketch sessions, great for figure drawing and sketching practice.

Q: I want to sketch landscapes or people while traveling. Any class for that?
A: Definitely. Try our life model drawing, sketching courses, or pencil basics.

Q: Do you offer open studio space for independent artists?
A: Yes, we do. Open studio sessions are available for 250,000 VND per 2-hour block. Booking in advance is required.

Q: Can I change my class/teacher if I want to?
A: Yes — just let us know and we’ll help match you.


6. Kids & Teens Classes

Q: What age can my child start art classes?
A:

  • Contemporary Art for Kids: usually 7+. For younger children, trial class is still available
  • Pencil Basics 1: 11+ or kids preparing for academic art

Q: How long is a “Contemporary Art for Kids” class?
A: 1.5 hours per session.


7. Home Tuition

Q: Can I choose my tutor for home classes?
A: You may request a tutor, but we’ll recommend the best match depending on the skills you’re focusing on.

Q: Can home classes take place in different locations?
A: No — we hold all sessions in a single agreed location.

Q: Are there any art museums in Hanoi you recommend?
A: Yes! Hanoi has several inspiring museums for art lovers and cultural explorers.
