This was a lesson in managing space on the page. She spent a great deal of time measuring and refining the drawing, but overlooked an important point: making sure the entire subject fit comfortably within the paper. Hopefully, she will handle this better next time.

Her shading has improved somewhat. However, I would like her to do a better job with areas of strong contrast and to make the objects stand out more clearly within the space.

We gradually increased the level of difficulty with a still life setup consisting of two objects. At this stage, she not only had to measure each object individually, but also compare them with one another to establish accurate proportions and relationships.

She practiced basic shading techniques using pencil hatching. She was able to represent the values reasonably well; however, the textures were not yet as smooth or as varied as I had hoped. We will continue working on these aspects in future exercises.

These were her first fundamental exercises. Today, she learned how to measure, compare, and estimate proportions in order to construct a solid drawing.
Well, a whole class devoted to just one cube doesn’t sound like much, does it?
