Today, we worked on the Save the Ocean theme. They created strong compositions and beautiful textures using gouache. I especially loved the way the characters interact with one another.

Awesome results today! Ibuki and K. observed the nutcracker in our studio and created a paper cutout composition before making a pencil drawing from it. I really liked K.’s clean shapes and accurate proportions, and Ibuki’s creative storytelling. Great job!

Today, we explored a new approach by using simplified shapes and colored paper to recreate a still life of a plush alpaca. This exercise helped Ibuki and K. understand composition through large squares. They then created beautiful pencil drawings based on their compositions, using a variety of textures. Great work today!

Ibuki and K. worked on a Paul Klee-inspired coloring exercise today. K. used vibrant, playful colors, while Ibuki focused on observing and drawing the objects. She studied the outdoor scene and created a fun composition. Although the artwork isn’t finished yet, I hope she will complete it at home.

We explored Post-Impressionism and studied Van Gogh’s painterly brushstrokes. Ibuki is learning to observe how objects interact and reflect color. While she can feel a bit impatient with repetitive strokes, she does very well with color mixing and a more free approach. She is gradually building a strong sense of composition and learns quickly.

K shows a good understanding of proportion and composition. I encourage him to explore more freely with color.
